Choosing a kit
What is a book nook?
A book nook is a small lit scene that stands between your books. You build it from a kit, it sits upright on the shelf like a thick volume, and it shows a tiny alley, shop or room in depth, usually with a light inside.
Are these kits made for children?
No, these kits are chosen for adults and older teens. Many have small parts, fine detail and long instructions. Check the age guidance stated on each product page, and keep loose parts away from young children while you build.
How do I know a kit will fit my shelf?
Compare the finished size on the product page with your shelf. Measure the height, depth and free width where it will stand, and leave a little room above it so you can lift it out and reach any switch.
Which kit is best for a first build?
Start with a smaller kit with a single scene or a simple movement. Fewer parts means fewer stages to manage, and the skills carry straight over to larger book nooks, ships and mechanical models later.
Building
Do I need tools that are not in the box?
Possibly, so check the product page for what is included. A craft knife, fine sandpaper, tweezers, a fine nozzle glue and small clamps help with most kits, and our Tools and lights collection gathers them in one place.
Do the kits need glue?
It depends on the kit, and the product page says which. Some slot together by friction, others need glue for certain parts or panels. A small bottle of wood or craft glue is worth having for any build.
How long does a build take?
It varies with the kit, from a few evenings to several weekends. The number of parts, any lighting and any painting you add make the difference. Build in short sittings and let glue set between stages.
What if a part is missing or broken?
Email us with your order number and a photo of the part, before you go further with that stage. We will look at it with you and work out the quickest way to get you building again.
Shipping and delivery
How long does delivery take?
Delivery takes 8 to 16 days to US addresses. Kits ship from our suppliers' warehouses overseas, so plan around that window, and order a little earlier when the kit is a gift for a set date.
Is shipping free?
Shipping is free on US orders over $79. Below that amount, the shipping cost is shown at checkout before you pay, so you always see the full total before you confirm your order.
Can I order a kit as a gift?
Yes, and order early, since delivery takes 8 to 16 days. For a birthday or a holiday, count back at least three weeks from the date, so the kit arrives with time to spare.
Where do the kits ship from?
Kits ship from our suppliers' warehouses overseas. That is why delivery takes 8 to 16 days, and why we state the window plainly on every page rather than promise a faster date.
Returns and support
What is your return policy?
You can return unused items within 30 days of delivery. A kit should be unbuilt, with its parts still in the sheets. Email us first and we will explain the next steps for your order.
Can I return a kit I have started?
No, a started kit counts as used, so it cannot be returned. If a part is missing or damaged, email us before you build further and we will help you sort it out.
How do I contact you?
Email is the way to reach us, at the address on our contact page. Include your order number if you have one, and a photo when your question is about a part or a step.
