How immersion brewing works
Coarse grounds steep fully in the water for a set time, then a mesh or paper filter separates them from the coffee. Because everything steeps together, the method is forgiving and gives a full bodied cup with little technique.
A starting recipe
For French press, use 30 g of coarse coffee to 500 g of water just off the boil, steep 4 minutes, then press slowly. For cold brew, use about 1:8 with cold water, steep 12 to 24 hours in the fridge and dilute to taste.
Care
Empty the grounds into the trash or compost, not the sink. Take the filter apart now and then and rinse each layer, since oils build up in the mesh. Let every part dry before reassembling.
