Before you buy: measure
Measure the clear wall where the bar will go and note the surface: tile, drywall or fiberglass. Screw-in bars are strongest when both ends land on wall studs, which sit about 16 inches apart in most US homes. Suction bars need smooth, flat, non-porous tile with no grout line under the cups.
How it mounts
Follow the instructions in the box exactly. Screw-in bars fix to studs or to anchors made for your wall type. If you are unsure about drilling into tile or finding studs, ask a handyman. Never use a towel bar as a grab bar.
Check it often
Give a screw-in bar a firm pull after fitting and again every few weeks, and tighten any loose screws. Check a suction bar's grip and indicator before every use, and refit it if the seal has lifted.
